- A degree or diploma in music from a
University or recognized school of music
- Pedagogical training
- Proof of teaching experience and students'
conservatory examination results (minimum honours standing)
- Specific qualifications for membership
- ORMTA members are recognized as qualified,
registered teaching professionals through provincial legislation
(Parliamentary Act 1946 - chapter 131) with the right to use the designation
R.M.T.
- Automatic membership in the Canadian
Federation of Music Teachers' Association (3,200 members Canada-wide)
- Information through local, provincial and
national publications and forums for communication amongst it's members
- The opportunity to participate in the local
branch of a professional non-profit organization that administers it's own
affairs through volunteers and has an elected representative on the
Provincial Council
- A community of peers with whom they can
share ideas and experiences through professional development, including
workshops, a video lending library and masterclasses
- A listing in the annual membership brochure
which is distributed throughout the national capital Region
- Help for teachers to expand their own
studios by increased exposure from the ORMTA membership brochure and through
a telephone referral service

- Reduced rates at ORMTA and CFMTA events
