“The First Class Honours Recital showcases ORMTA students who have achieved the distinction of First Class Honours on their practical examinations. Students that have won First Class Honours Scholarships are automatically invited to perform and all others are invited to audition in advance of the recital. The Recital is a chance to hear the beautiful music of ORMTA students!”

There are also First Class Honours Scholarships. Please check the funding/scholarship section on the page.

  • “Every other year, the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association is pleased to present a province-wide concert tour featuring a talented, rising star! This gifted student is awarded this career-building opportunity by winning the ORMTA Provincial Young Artist Competition earlier that same year.”

    • Students of ORMTA members first compete locally at the branch level. A local branch winner then qualifies to compete at their regional zone competition. Winners of each zone competition across Ontario then earn the right to advance to this provincial competition. Open to both instrumentalists and vocalists, students are expected to perform a stylistically balanced recital programme of 30 to 40 minutes in duration. The winner of the ORMTA Young Artist Competition is awarded a scholarship and a concert tour of Ontario hosted by local ORMTA branches.

    • New changes are coming to the Provincial competitions for 2026! Please check back for details and the new rules in the fall.

Masterclasses

  • Debra Grass, Convenor

“A new initiative for ORMTA, the Junior Piano Masterclass is an opportunity for students to perform and receive feedback from our Clinician. In a positive environment, students will learn skillfulness and musicality in their art form. Teachers, plan to attend to enrich your own teaching and consider sending students to strengthen their performance skills!”

  • Victor Avila, University Liaison

“University Masterclasses are featured regularly throughout the school year and are opportunities for advanced ORMTA students to perform for university professors and receive feedback. Partnership with piano, voice and theory professors from the University of Ottawa and Carleton University has allowed for ORMTA to produce these educational events for students. These events are complementary and are open to the public.”
