Congratulations to our Concerto Competition Winner, April Zheng who played Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.3, Op.26. April is a student of Dr. Chunson Park. Second place with a tie went to: Brianna Dai (student of Zhanna Gumenyuk) and Laura D'Souza (student of Dr. Chunson Park). Congratulations!
The judges also recognized two students with honorable mentions: Zimo Li (student of Sherry Lu) and Muyang Li (student of Dr. Chunson Park).

April Zheng is an Ottawa-born pianist and violinist, and a Gr. 10 student in Pre-IB French Immersion Program at Merivale High School. April is a piano student with Dr. Chunson Park and has completed her Licentiate Diploma (LRCM) piano exam in Jan 2023. She is also a Licentiate Diploma candidate in Violin Performance, studying with Ms Galina Rezaeipour.

April began her piano study at age six, having received First Class Honors with Distinction in all piano and music theory exams at RCM since 2013. From 2017 to 2022, she actively participated in music competitions, winning over $6000 in music scholarships. Her recent achievements include: winner of the Provincial Finals Piano Concerto Competition (2022), winner of the ORMTA-OSO Concerto Competition (2022), winner of the ORMTA Young Artist Competition (2021), winner of the Provincial Finals Diploma Piano Competition (2020), 2nd place in Provincial Finals Open Piano Competition (2022), and six major trophies at Kiwanis for Open/Advanced Piano competitions. April has performed at Carnegie Hall, National Art Centre, Chamberfest’s Rising Stars Concert, Kiwanis Highlights Concert and the Beethoven Marathon.
Outside of piano, April works as a 1st violinist and the pianist in Ottawa Youth Orchestra (2022-23) and worked as a 1st violinist in Ottawa Junior Youth Orchestra (2017-18). She was the 3rd-place winner at Provincial Finals Diploma Violin Competition (2022) and had two violin solo recitals in 2022 and 2020.
April is excited to make her orchestral debut performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra in March 2023.
